Valentine's Day English Activity - Idioms and Expressions Related to Romance

Because Valentine's Day is coming soon we decided to teach you some Idioms and Expressions related to love and romance! Enjoy!

Love at first sight – falling in love the first time you meet someone.
Ex:I met her at the office and it was love it first sight!

Blind Date – a social meeting or date with someone you have never met before; the date has been arranged by a friend or family member.
Ex: I went on a blind date last night and it was terrible, the guy was very rude and didn't even pay the bill.

To fall (or be) head over heels in love – to love someone very much.
Ex: He fell head over heels in love with her and won't stop calling her.

To be crazy about someone – to like someone very much.
Ex: Mary is crazy about her husband, she really loves him.

To be heartbroken – to be very sad, usually because of romantic loss.
Ex: His girlfriend broke up with him and he is heartbroken now.

Puppy love – young love between children or teenagers.
Ex: My 11 year old daughter has another case of puppy love.

Pop the question – ask someone to marry you.
Ex: He finally popped the question and they are getting married next year.

Love is blind – people do not see the faults in their lovers.
Ex: He is a terrible person, but she is crazy about him, love is blind!

A bed of roses – a very pleasant situation
Ex: Our marriage is a bed of roses. We are so happy together!

Love conquers all – love is strong enough to overcome all problems.
Ex: Do you think love conquers all?


To go out with someone – to have a steady, romantic relationship with someone.
Ex: We have been going out for 5 years.
